Don S. Davis

Don S. Davis plays General George Hammond

General George Hammond was in charge of Stargate Command until his retirement. A respected and experienced military man, he was capable of seeing a situation from all sides, and did what he knew was best for his team. Family is important to him. He lost is wife to cancer, and he keeps his two grandchildren on his speed dial so he can talk with them whenever he wishes. He was replaced by General Jack O’Neill when he retired.

Don’s background

Don was born in the Ozark Mountains, Missouri on August 4, 1942. He has always been creative, loving to draw, paint and sculpt from a young age. His father supported that, and created a woodworking shop in their basement for Don. Don went to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in theater and art from Southwest Missouri State College in 1965. He then served three years of active duty with the US Army. When he returned home, he attended the University of Southern Illinois, attaining his Master’s Degree in theater in 1970. He taught theater for several years at universities across the country before returning to earn his PhD in theater, which he accomplished in 1982.

While teaching at the University of British Columbia, Don began working in the booming film industry of Vancouver, Canada. He left his teaching position there to act full time in 1987. He is an accomplished artist… he frequently draws, paints, carves wood or experiments with any other artistic medium that strikes his fancy. When he’s not acting or pursuing other artistic endeavors, Don enjoys a good game of golf.

Always busy, Don is currently in postproduction on two projects, “Vipers,” and “Far Cry.” He just finished a television miniseries called “Burn Up.” Since appearing on “Stargate: SG-1”, Don has appeared in “The Unquiet,” “Flash Gordon,” “Beneath,” “The Still Life” and “Seed.” Before and during his stint on “Stargate,” Don has made guest appearances on shows like “Psych,” “The Dead Zone,” “The West Wing,” “Navy NCIS,” “Andromeda,” “Stargate: Atlantis,” “The Twilight Zone,” “The X-Files,” “Northern Exposure” and “21 Jump Street” among several others. One of his favorites was “Twin Peaks.” Movies to his credit have included “The Journey of Natty Gann,” “Deadly Deception,” “Look Who’s Talking (I and II),” “Omen IV: The Awakening,” “A League of Their Own,” “Highlander,” “A Family Divided,” “The Ranger, the Cook, and the Hole in the Sky,” “Shadow of a Doubt,” and “Con Air.”

Don’s awards

In 2003, Don won the Director’s Award at Fright Fest for Best Supporting Actor in “Savage Island.” In 2004, he was nominated for a Leo Award for his role in “Stargate: SG-1.”
